Kaunas - Lithuania
Before the visit students in each country made a research of architectural heritage in their towns. They gathered information about architectural styles and tendencies in area they live in. They also gathered fact of digital heritage of their country. The common task was to find the oldest, the most unexpected and unknown facts in digital heritage base. Results of learning activities: interactive route and tour guide, a survey of importance of digital heritage. The students have interacted on digital heritage, experiencing great moments of cultural and personal growth as well as enriching their knowledge of the partners' countries architecture and monumental wealth.
Day 1: Presenting architectural heritage of partnership countries, important architects and creators. Students worked in groups formed from students of different countries searching for similarities and differences between architectural heritage. After workshop they presented facts of digital survey and compared findings about digital heritage. Together they made a common presentation about importance of digital heritage. Educational program and excursion with cooperation of Kaunas Art Academy for better understanding types of architectural heritage- modernism era in Kaunas. Active workshop for outdoor learning- using town as a as a resource in teaching and learning.
Day 2: Educational travel to Curronian spit, a part of UNESCO heritage. Educational program- exploration of architectural style in Nida. Making and collecting photos for interactive map. Working in groups from students of different countries for better collaboration and cultural understanding.
Day 3: Educational travel to Trakai Island castle. Exploration of digitalized heritage and exploration of medieval architecture. Collecting photos for interactive route. Coming back to Kaunas and creating interactive route guide of Kaunas architectural heritage in languages of partnership countries. STEAM workshop of engineering and architecture “Everyone could be an architect”, during which student gain practical knowledge how to design, estimate and engineering.
Day 4: Presentation of common results- interactive routes. Evaluation of the visit. Certifications’ ceremony. Workshop for teachers - making agreements about further project management and planning.
The participants got better understanding of importance of digital heritage, they revealed new facts about their and partnership countries exploring it. Some students do not even know the fact, that such heritage exists. Also, working in groups with peers from different countries they improved foreign language skills, digital literacy, learn how to cooperate, tolerate different cultures and respect different views. The activities helped to gain knowledge about heritage of partnership countries and a better understanding of European cultural heritage. Also, learning in outdoor environments helped them to reveal architectural heritage in a new way, to gain more knowledge working actively then being passive listener. Activities helped to overcome lack of basic skills by providing alternative and attractive methods of learning, integrating good practices and new methods into daily activities. Teachers observed the results and applied these methods at their school afterwards. By this way these short-term activities helped us develop schools’ program in an inclusive way, create a new or more modern, dynamic, committed and professional environment inside the organization and to enhance the quality and relevance of the learning offer in education. During the visit we planned workshops, which increased students’ knowledge of STEAM and usage of ICT.
