Natural Heritage, Samsun, Turkey
The virtual mobility was organized by the school in Samsun, Turkey, between January 19-22, 2021, entitled Natural Heritage and aimed to learn about the natural landscapes and beauty of the natural heritage of each country, as well as reflect on environmental problems and solutions.
The first day of virtual activities began with the opening ceremony, speeches by the coordinator and the school administration. For a better cultural understanding, a video was presented with the organizing school and the city of Samsun. After the introductory activities, all students were grouped in small workshops. Students shared their interests, hobbies and concerns about environmental issues, played ice-breaking games. After the workshop, all students participated in a debate of the Youth Forum on the protection of natural heritage. Following this debate, issues of natural heritage conservation in Europe, the importance of natural heritage and solutions for its protection were presented.
The next day, an environmental workshop was organized by an expert, Ozden Saglam, who works in Wetland as a forestry engineer. Each country presented its own natural heritage, ways of protection and the main issues related to ecology. The virtual photo exhibition that the students gathered from their own countries was presented as a tour of a virtual museum. After the presentations, a game about natural heritage was organized using the Kahoot platform.
On the third day, the Turkish students presented their UNESCO club and the activities they carry out in the school. According to the theme, a virtual tour of the Vezirköprü Șahinkaya Canyon and the Kızılırmak River Delta was presented. In the second part of the activities there was a discussion about the works of the partner countries. The first book debated was My Name is Red, a Turkish novel. The main idea, characters and author were discussed. The students' involvement in the project was evaluated through the Mentimeter program.
The fourth day focused on discussions about literature. This was followed by a review of the Romanian novel Childhood Memories and the Polish short story Yanko, the musician. At the final ceremony, all countries listened to traditional songs and gave speeches.
This type of activity promoted equity and the possibilities for collaboration and involvement of each student, despite economic or financial obstacles. The students improved their skills in the field of natural heritage with the help of the youth forum which helped them to try to address global issues and improve their problem-solving skills.
